3-Dimensional Structural Deformation

Geotechnical and Structural Monitoring Services

The following can be the cause of structural damage to properties:

  • Inadequate design of foundations
  • Poor construction of foundations
  • Adjacent basement construction
  • Ground heave (shrinkage or swelling)
  • Changes in the water table
  • Vegetation adjacent to foundations
  • Landslip
  • Leaks in sewers or water supply pipes
  • Adjacent construction works
  • Major flooding

AES will provide monitoring solutions that will help with decision making when facing any of the causes of structural damage mentioned above, that can be:

Crack Sensors & Structural Monitoring
Placing of tell-tales, monitor gauge or electronic crack sensors in structural connections along walls and floors can detect movements as small as 0.1mm. This can provide the engineers with real time data without the requirement of being physically present on site.

Remote Tilt Monitoring
Installed mainly on structures to monitor movement and record tilt of walls, beams, deck of a structure. Our sensors can be as accurate as 0.01 degree, movement will be detected in real time data with web configured SMS text and email alarms, enabling an early warning of any abnormal movement. Engineer will be able to assess if structural elements are moving in tandem or are rotating independently of each other.

Deformation Monitoring
Structures deform under load, due to age or inadequacy of its original design. Deformation monitoring or spatial monitoring can detect these movements. Robotic total stations, measuring 24/7 small movements in any direction. We also incorporate different systems like crack sensors, strain gauges, tilt sensors with all reporting to a central server with defined parameters with set trigger alarms when data measured exceeds specified tolerances.
